GRANBY - A Connecticut man was ordered held without bail Friday for his alleged involvement in an attempted break-in on Truby Street.
Robert Vitalli, 33, whose last known address was in Connecticut, pleaded innocent Friday in Eastern Hampshire District Court to charges of breaking and entering in the daytime with the intent to commit a felony, placing an occupant in fear, carrying a dangerous weapon and possession of burglary tools.
According to police, at about 11 a.m. officers responded to Truby Street for a resident's report that a strange man was banging on her windows and doors trying to get into her house. The resident told police that a man unknown to her, later identified as Vitalli, had ridden up to her house on a bicycle and was attempting to get inside.
At one point during the call, police said the resident believed Vitalli had gained entry into her house. Shortly after, police reported that a family member of the resident pulled into the driveway and saw Vitalli inside. Vitalli then allegedly left the residence and began banging on the windows of the family member's car in an attempt to get inside.
Shortly after, Detective Barbara Fenn and officer Thomas Yvon stopped Vitalli as he was leaving on his bicycle. During a subsequent search, police reportedly found gloves, a hat, a knife and screwdrivers in Vitalli's possession.
