NORTHAMPTON - Members of the Fire Department responded to Main Street Thursday morning to survey the damage caused by a collapsed fire escape.
According to a Fire Department release, at approximately 8:49 a.m., Engine Five crews responded to a report that a section of fire escape at the rear of 259 Main St. had collapsed and was resting on the building's power lines.
Deputy Fire Chief William Hurley said the collapse caused no injuries and the cause is still under investigation.
The occupant of the home had to leave until the fire escape can be reinstalled.
Hurley said it was through the assistance of the Police Department, Building Inspectors office, Mass Electric and Harold's Crane Service that the area was able to be secured.
The Northampton Red Cross was made aware of the emergency.
