Teen charged after Granby crash

GRANBY - Five people were taken to the hospital Friday afternoon when a Chicopee teen failed to stop at an intersection while driving under the influence of alcohol with an infant in her vehicle, according to police.

Granby police charged Emma Franklin, 17, of 45 Warregan St., with operating a motor vehicle as to endanger, child endangerment while under the influence of alcohol, and operating under the influence of alcohol causing serious bodily injury.

According to police, Franklin drove through the intersection of South Street and New Ludlow Road at 1:30 p.m. with a 2-month-old infant and a 16-year-old boy in her vehicle. Her 1996 Toyota Avalon crashed into a 2007 Ford pickup truck towing a small trailer driven by Lisa Courchesne, 40, of 144 School St. in Granby.

Following the initial crash, the trailer reportedly rolled over and struck a parked vehicle, and the Toyota kept going and struck another parked vehicle. Courchesne and her passenger, Grace Casanova, 30, also of 144 School St. in Granby, and Franklin and her two passengers were all taken to Baystate Medical Center by Granby and South Hadley Ambulance.

Baystate spokesman Benjamin Craft said both Courchesne and Casanova were listed in good condition Friday night, but said he had no information on the conditions of Franklin, the infant, or her other passenger.

Franklin also faces charges of speeding, stop sign violation, and a junior operator license passenger restriction violation.
