Former officer faces charges in second rape case

SPRINGFIELD - A former Belchertown Police officer pleaded innocent Wednesday to charges of forcibly raping a child and indecent assault and battery on a person 14 years old or older.

Sean F. Bracey, 42, of 34 Pine Grove St., had been arraigned in Hampden Superior Court on identical charges on Aug. 13, and has since been held on $50,000 cash bail.

The earlier incident, which allegedly occurred in Springfield on or around April 21, 2007, involved a different victim, according to a Hampden Superior Court clerk.

The latest case, which allegedly occurred on July 20, 2006, was brought before Judge Constance M. Sweeney, who had Bracey held on an additional $50,000 cash bail.

Bracey resigned from the Belchertown Police Department in June 2005, following his conviction in April of that year on a charge of domestic assault and battery.

He was sentenced to 30 days in jail at the time of that conviction, according to the court clerk.
