NORTHAMPTON - An Easthampton man arrested for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend, who is more than five weeks pregnant with their child, pleaded innocent Monday to charges of assault and battery, aggravated assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and intimidating a witness.

Kevin E. Pardee, 22, of 12 Plain St., was arrested after the 21-year-old woman told police he had repeatedly abused her over two days. According to Easthampton police, Officer Tammy Kaleta responded to Loudville Road at approximately 4 p.m. Saturday for a report that a woman had been pushed down and choked.

The woman told police she and Pardee had attended a house party Friday night where they had a loud argument and Pardee assaulted her. When leaving the party, the woman said Pardee grabbed her by the throat and shoved her into a snowbank, injuring her hands.

The following morning, according to the report, the woman was asleep on a couch in the Loudville Road apartment when Pardee allegedly entered the room and flipped the couch over, causing further injury to her palms.

The woman has since applied for and received a restraining order against Pardee, court documents indicate.

Pardee posted $1,000 bail Monday morning and Judge William Mazanec III included in the conditions of his release that he stay away from and have no contact with the woman, according to court documents.

Pardee, who has a lengthy district court record, has been charged in the past with assault and battery, violating an abuse-prevention order, threatening, intimidation and threatening to commit murder, and has two active restraining orders. Pardee, who also faces a charge of malicious destruction of property under $250, is scheduled to return to court for a hearing April 15.
